Overall Job Purpose

The Electrical Technician safeguards the integrity and availability of the FPSO’s electrical generation, distribution and protection systems to sustain safe, stable production. The role provides hands on expertise for preventive/corrective maintenance, fault restoration and operational readiness across MV/LV switchgear, transformers, motors/MCCs and UPS/DC systems. It enforces safe systems of work; especially electrical isolation, HV/LV switching and Permit to Work (PTW); in line with offshore expectations for electrical control and hazardous area operations. The position also stewards documentation, spares and vendor interventions through the CMMS, and develops local technicians through day-to-day coaching and acting lead responsibilities, ensuring compliance with class/regulatory standards and company procedures.

Core Responsibilities

Operations & Maintenance

  • • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on generators, MV/LV switchboards, transformers, protection relays, motors/MCCs and UPS/battery systems, ensuring tasks are planned, prioritized and closed out in the CMMS with complete history.
  • • Diagnose and restore electrical faults using approved test equipment, vendor documentation and methodical troubleshooting to minimize production impact and protect barrier health.
  • • Monitor and trend electrical asset condition (loads, temperatures, alarms) and raise timely work orders when parameters deviate from specification.

Electrical Safety, Authorization & Work Control

  • • Apply safe isolation/LOTO and perform HV/LV switching within authorization; verify points of isolation, earthing and safe reinstatement per site rules.
  • • Enforce PTW discipline, risk assessment and SIMOPS controls for all electrical activities, ensuring conflicts are identified and controls are effective.
  • • Maintain compliance in hazardous areas by following CompEx/IECEx practices for installation, inspection and maintenance of Ex equipment.

Documentation, Standards & Reliability

  • • Update and safeguard one line diagrams, protection settings, as built redlines, test records and equipment dossiers; ensure spares/consumables are available for safety and production critical equipment.
  • • Adhere to offshore electrical standards/codes and guidance for design/operation of electrical systems on floating production assets (e.g., API RP 14F; HSE offshore electrical/control guidance).
  • • Report KPIs (PM compliance, MTTR/MTBF, unplanned outages) and propose improvements that enhance availability and reduce incident potential.

Stakeholder, Vendor & Team Support

  • • Coordinate vendor and contractor activities (scope, permits, deliverables) and capture learnings back into CMMS and drawings for continuous improvement.
  • • Mentor and coach junior/local technicians through task briefings, on job training and feedback; act up for the Electrical Supervisor when required to maintain business continuity.

Emergency Preparedness & Environmental Stewardship

  • • Perform assigned Emergency Response duties; demonstrate competence in drills related to power loss, fire and associated scenarios.
  • • Prevent and report unplanned discharges and dispose of waste/spares in accordance with procedures and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Qualification:

  • • Minimum: HND or NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electrical Maintenance Engineering. Bachelor’s degree (advantageous).

Certification(s):

Preferred certifications:

  • • Preferred: CompEx Ex01–Ex04 (or IECEx CoPC); HV/LV switching/authorization; BOSIET/FOET with HUET/CA EBS; valid offshore medical (OEUK/ENG1 or equivalent by flag/sector).
  • • Professional memberships (advantage): IET/IEEE or equivalent (industry norm for electrical practitioners).

Experience:

  • • 3–5 years’ electrical maintenance experience (offshore oil & gas/FPSO preferred), including hands on work with HV/LV power systems, protection and UPS/DC systems.
  • • Work control: Proven application of PTW, isolations/LOTO, risk assessment and energized work controls in marine/offshore environments.
  • • Tools & systems: Competence with CMMS (planning, history, spares) and vendor documentation; ability to read/mark up electrical drawings and protection settings.
  • • Desirable: Authorization or demonstrated capability to act as Authorized Person for HV/LV switching per company rules
