Piping Engineer

This role provides mechanical, piping and engineering support to MPSG Facility Operations as well as support on pressurized and structural systems. The Piping Engineer’s role is to assist in completing all the Piping-related scopes and inputs as applicable to all Operational requirements and Management of Change scopes related to the FPSO operations.

The Piping Engineer shall provide support to the Mechanical Static and Integrity Engineers with their daily operational activities and associated project scopes as related to FPSO operations.

Core Responsibilities

  • • Estimating man-hours or validating estimates from subcontractors for pipe fabrications and installations to ensure proposals are accurate and not overestimated
  • • Support with regular updates of AIMS and other Integrity management applications focusing on piping, pressurized systems and structural anomalies and defects
  • • Provide piping & layout engineering support to all SMEs including but not limited to piping modifications, pipe replacement, pipe support redesign, pipe stress analysis, CAD or 3D modelling, pressure vessel and structural layout designs
  • • Provide effective assurance on all piping material-related purchases by ensuring documentation provided by contractors are compliant with scope and MPSG standards
  • • Review contractor fabrication / shop drawings to ensure compliance with MODEC and Project requirements
  • • Review piping and layout technical documents (specifications, calculation notes, drawings, etc.) in line with international codes and standards (ASME B31.3, AWS codes, API codes)
  • • Support with P&ID and Isometric updates after changes (MOCs) are implemented on-site using the required tools (AutoCAD etc.)
  • • Work with Planner to develop accurate plans for piping installation /replacement scopes related to TRs, modifications, Change Orders etc.
  • • Develop work scopes and work packs specific to the piping work to be performed. This may include developing ISO drawings, updating P&IDs, developing procedures etc.
  • • Participate in RCA investigations, in-house and outside contracts and assist in closing out correct actions
  • • Provide adequate cover for Static and Asset Integrity SMEs due to synergy and constant engagement with their scopes.
  • • Complete all work activities in accordance with the MPSG standards, procedures, and specifications, as well as any applicable local government regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or Equivalent

Relevant Experience:

  • • 5-8 years in Piping Engineering, and Design of FPSO, Semi-submersible, Jack-up Rig, Drillship, Bulk Carrier, Alframax / Product Tanker and Car Carrier for New Builds and Major Repairs.
  • • Must have worked in different countries to understand different fabrication standards and standardized to MODEC’s Standard
  • • Offshore and Marine Piping Isometric drafting, P&ID mark-up and revision, liaising with fabricators for fabrications and understanding MODEC’s design philosophy and in-depth knowledge of MODEC’s design standards for piping.
  • • Good understanding of MODEC’s HSEQ standards to be implemented in the design and fabrication works.
  • • Operation Support for Major Vessel Upgrade/Repairs and conversion
  • • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • • High level of computer literacy in office packages, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • • Knowledge of document control and procurement management systems and processes.
  • • Knowledge of the maintenance management system, preferably MAXIMO.
  • • Current OPITO accredited TBOSIET (Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Escape Training) qualification and UKOOA accredited offshore medical clearance certificate are required for offshore travel to the FPSO.
  • • Experience with a major oil and gas company.
  • • Have knowledge, and remain abreast, of technical developments within the field of Piping, relevant codes, standards and legislative requirements.
